Salta Horses provides horse assisted therapy to individuals and whānau who are facing challenges in their lives. We combine work with horses and talking therapy under the guidance of a mental health professional at our North Canterbury premises, or onsite at your location with our team of mini horses. Our approach is often particularly effective for people who find social situations and traditional learning environments difficult, including young people and people with disabilities. Our facilities are fully accessible, safe, private and all work is confidential.
Horse Assisted Therapy
Our rural location is open, spacious and allows clients to enjoy the freedom of the outdoors. Sessions with Salta Horses can be used as an addition to talking therapies.
Horses reflect the fears and anxieties that are being felt by clients. This can help people to understand their own internal processes more quickly and speed up emotional insights.
Observing herd dynamics can help clients to better understand the dynamics in their own relationships, family and community. Horses become living, breathing metaphors for challenges and experiences.
Interaction with horses helps people to have a more positive attitude so they can improve their relationships and develop skills in assertiveness, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork and non-verbal communication.
We are an approved WINZ provider
Are you receiving financial assistance from WINZ such as a disability allowance? You can contact a WINZ case manager to discuss accessing a subsidy to fund your Salta Horses therapy sessions. Usually we provide up to six sessions per client and WINZ can pay Salta Horses directly, removing the need to sort out reimbursements.

When you attend your sessions, please dress for the weather, with closed-in, sturdy footwear.
