A Team Approach

All sessions are delivered by credentialed staff comprising of a mental health professional, an equine specialist. The horses are a central part of the team.

Strong Code of Ethics

The Salta Horses team adheres to the EAGALA code of ethics, and is committed to ensuring that all Health and Safety requirements are met under the 2015 H&S at Work Act.

Grounding Experience

Participants remain on the ground in their work with our horses. Riding and horsemanship learning is not part of our service.

Solution Oriented

The horses often become the metaphor during sessions which helps us  to access our own solutions to meet life’s challenges.

What is Equine Assisted Learning?

Equine assisted learning involves interacting with horses through simple goal-oriented activities.

All work is done on the ground with the horses free in an enclosure. There is no riding or horsemanship involved. Anyone can take part, even if you have never been near a horse before.

Your experiences interacting with the horses will help you to learn more about yourself and others in a way that is easy to apply to your personal and professional life.

This unique style of experiential learning is suitable for professional leadership development, for team building activities or as a therapeutic option.

We are based in the Waimakariri District in peaceful surroundings, overlooked by the mountains, just a 40 minute drive north of Christchurch.

We warmly welcome you to a memorable horse time experience.

Horses make great teachers

We know that horses have clearly defined roles within their herd. They value leadership, have individual personalities, moods and responses both to their peers and to the environment around them. Being herd animals, they are strongly socially connected, and just like us, a sense of safety and belonging enables them to thrive.

Horses are not impressed by status or good intentions. They respond to us honestly and immediately, regardless of our job title, appearance, what we earn, or what kind of car we drive. They know when we are grounded focussed and being real and they know straight away when we are not, even if we don't know it ourselves.  As flight animals, their lives literally depend on being aware of their surroundings and their interactions with others, including humans.
